St. Anthony sand dunes are located in eastern Idaho, about 20 miles north of Idaho Falls. They are 35 miles long by 3 miles wide with only 2 unloading areas. The eastern area Egin lakes is where we always unload, which is accually about the center of the dunes, and where all the bigger dunes are! This is the largest bowl I have ever been in!!!! As you can see how far down my friends are in the bottom. The camera does not do these pics justice on how big these sand dunes really are!! The walls of this bowl are by far steeper than "choke cherry" hill, but not as long. This is the top of "choke cherry" hill. From the bottom of the valley floor to the top of the tall hill straight in front(Devils playground) is about 900 feet straight up!!! This is a view of the staging area of "choke cherry" from the top. The lone tree in the bottom is about the only shade when you are waiting to climb. You really get to see how fast and how much power your have when you start up!! The wind really started to blow this afternoon, so the brown haze is sand in the air My friend George takin pics of people climbing this long ol' dune Time to ralax and work on the tan!! Waiting a turn, and watching my friends. |
